Hello Fellow Audi Owners: I purchased a 2008 preowned/Audi Certified A-6 w/ 7800 miles on it in Jan., 2009. A bit more than one yr. later the MMI panel located next to the drink holder is failing. I have been told by the Audi dealer that something was spilled on it (residue is apparently evident under the key pads) although I personally did not spill and I am the only driver. The dealer has offered to pay for the labor but I will have to pay for the material (labor=$600, new MMI=$600). I have been told by Audi that just one spill of water is enough to destroy the MMI system. It seems that where the MMI is located, on a horizontal surface immediately in front of the drink holder, that a spill at some point may be imminent. I am asking other owners if they too may have run into this problem. A better design would perhaps be to used a "sealed" key system like a Nordic Trac treadmill which has a sealed key system to prevent perspiration or spills from damaging the electrical system. This potential problem should be highlighted in the MMI manual warning of its delicacy and susceptibility to damage----DON'T USE THE DRINK HOLDER! I enjoy the Audi greatly as a vehicle but am not impressed w/ this weak flaw.
