Old Luxury vs New Luxury

by 1WonSoul

Germany boasts three of the largest luxury car manufacturing companies in the world: Mercedes, BMW, and Audi. While Mercedes and BMW have been the traditional favorites of American consumers, Audi has taken a quantum leap in design and quality. The prices for all three car brands are pretty much comparable, however, Audi is head and shoulders above in the category of innovation.

I have to be honest, I have never been a big fan of BMW, and I worked at a Mercedes Benz dealership for over a year. I noticed a disturbing trend while working there. The mechanics were swamped on a daily basis repairing vehicles that were virtually new. It was evident that Mercedes Benz's vehicles are very prone to having mechanical issues.

I remember detailing several different models of Mercedes that were subsequently sold, and on more than one occasion, I saw those same vehicles in the servicing area of the dealership no more than two weeks later. That trend showed me that many consumers buy vehicles just for the name and so-called "prestige" that comes along with purchasing a well-known brand rather than buying a less-hyped brand that is known for longevity of their vehicles.

With the now global recognition of the Audi brand, consumers are beginning to notice that quality doesn't have to come with compromise. Mercedes and BMW sales may suffer as a result. This time Germany has got it right.

I leave you with the new Audi "Goodnight" commercial featuring the A8...
