Audi Creating More Buzz For Diesel and Hybrid Vehicles

2011 Audi Q7 TDI
With Americans feeling the pinch in gas prices this past month, I wouldn't be surprised if we see more people giving more serious thought to investing in diesel or hybrid vehicles. Granted, we have been witnessing record highs in gas prices for the past few years...and the way its going, it looks like it's just going to increase from here on out.

So Audi couldn't have timed their announcement any better. Last week the company said that they will be expanding its clean diesel TDI model line by offering the Q5, A6, and their flagship model A8 with clean diesel engine options within the next 2 years.

Audi will be making a push to the U.S. and China markets for their diesel vehicles, as Frank van Meel states in the following video:

When I talk to people about diesel cars, I always get some remark about how much more expensive diesel fuel is. Here in California diesel is a little over $4, give or take. However, considering how much more mpg you get, it could be worth it in the long run. For example, during my week with the Audi A3 TDI (review coming soon), I was able to drive from San Diego, CA to Phoenix, AZ (350 miles) on half a tank.

Here are more thoughts to take into consideration...In a recent article published at Edmunds.com, Ronald Montoya said that hybrids and diesels don't always save you money. As you can see, the Audi A3 has a relatively low "break even" period of 2.3 years.

So the challenge for Audi and other car makers is building more cost-effective diesel cars and hybrids. And so progress continues...
