Bigger Is No Longer Better: Audi Sales Growth

2018 Audi A5 Coupe

Remember when most people loved big SUV's and big fancy sedans?

That doesn't seem to be the case anymore if Audi's February sales are any indication. The company recently released their Business Update revealing that the A5, Q3, and Q5 are currently in the sales lead.

Audi February 2018 sales report

The Audi A5 category in particular has experienced exponential sales growth with a 447% increase over last year's numbers. This category includes the A5/S5/RS5 coupe, A5/S5/RS5 cabriolet, and A5 sportback. The A5 and S5 coupe received a redesign for 2018 with more dramatic shapes and sharp lines, plus a 252 horsepower TFSI® four-cylinder engine on the A5 and a 354 hp TFSI® V6 on the S5.

Car buyers are still drawn to SUV's, albeit mini SUV's, and the bread and butter for Audi has been the Q3 and Q5 models. When I reviewed the Q3 a couple years ago, I wasn't too wild about the size, but there are people out there who appreciate a car that offers simple luxury.

Overall, Audi continues its growth in the U.S. with an 11% increase compared to last year at this time.

A couple months ago Scott Keogh, president at Audi of America, talked with Bloomberg about the company's sales growth and outlook for luxury car buyers.
