5 Reasons to Love the 2014 Audi A7 TDI

For those of you diehard Audi fans, I probably don't have to list these reasons to love the A7 TDI, but if you're in the market for a new luxury sports sedan and wondering which one to get, perhaps this article will put the A7 at the top of your shopping list...or not. I'm betting it will, though.

1. It’s beautiful - Of course I can say that about any Audi, but the A7 stands out from the rest in design. People just can’t help but ooh and ahh over it. My tester was the Prestige model ($2,900) that came with a sport package as well ($1,000).

2. Fuel economy is fantastic - EPA estimates are 24 city mpg and 38 highway mpg with a combined 29 mpg. I was actually able to get 40 mpg (mainly highway) on a trip that took 117 miles. During my week with the A7 TDI, I clocked 420.4 miles, and there was still about ¼ tank left.

3. Top-notch interior - I have to say that the Nougat brown interior took awhile to get used to; I’d much prefer black or titanium grey. Despite the color bias, I can’t deny the impeccable leather seats and all the lovely details Audi drivers are accustomed to such as front seat ventilation (Prestige feature), luxurious decorative inlays, 8-way power front seats with driver memory, Bang & Olufsen sound system ($5,900), steering wheel with multi-function controls, etc., etc.

4. Torque, baby - Although 240 horsepower isn’t that impressive, tack on 428 pound-feet of torque with a quattro all-wheel drive system, and you’re grinning from ear to ear. I’m not big on 0-60 figures, but according to Steven Ewing of Autoblog.com, you can reach 60 mph in 5.5 seconds.

5. It's practical - If you've been reading this blog for awhile, you know how much I appreciate a practical car that can tote around my tall homies and luggage, plus have leg room in the back to make a family road trip more tolerable.

Bonus reason #6: It's beautiful. Oh, I already said that.

Base price for the A7 TDI is $66,900. My tester included all the bells and whistles totaling $81,395.
